Description
A thick, airy crust topped with rich tomato sauce and melty mozzarella, perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a medium bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow the mixture to sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Craft the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Mix gently until a dough begins to form.
- Knead to perfection: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a cloth. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Shape the dough: Transfer the risen dough to a greased baking sheet or pan. Stretch it to the edges.
- Sauce and cheese: Spread your pizza sauce evenly over the dough, topping it generously with shredded mozzarella and oregano.
- Bake to golden bliss: Slide it into your preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Finish and serve: Allow your pizza to cool, garnish with fresh basil, slice, and serve.
Notes
Make the dough a day in advance for even better flavor. Store in the fridge and bring to room temperature before using.
