Description

A comforting dish of chicken and rice enveloped in a creamy, flavorful sauce with caramelized onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 pound chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup French onion soup
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (such as thyme or parsley) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Push the onions aside and add the chicken to the skillet, cooking until browned on both sides—about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the French onion soup and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add the cooked rice to the skillet, stirring until fully coated. Let it cook for another 5-10 minutes until heated through.
  5. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve alongside a salad or vegetables.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare rice and onions a day in advance. For air fryer enthusiasts, cook chicken separately and combine later.
