Description
A comforting dish of chicken and rice enveloped in a creamy, flavorful sauce with caramelized onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1 pound chicken thighs or breasts
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup French onion soup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (such as thyme or parsley) for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
- Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Push the onions aside and add the chicken to the skillet, cooking until browned on both sides—about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the French onion soup and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add the cooked rice to the skillet, stirring until fully coated. Let it cook for another 5-10 minutes until heated through.
- Garnish with fresh herbs and serve alongside a salad or vegetables.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare rice and onions a day in advance. For air fryer enthusiasts, cook chicken separately and combine later.
