Description
A thick, juicy burger topped with sweet caramelized onions and melted cheese, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 4 slices of cheese (Cheddar or American)
- 4 burger buns (brioche or whole grain)
- BBQ sauce (to taste)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Oil for cooking (olive or canola)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, stirring frequently. Cook until they soften and take on a deep golden color, about 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the patties: Form the ground beef into burger patties, making them slightly larger than your buns. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the patties: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness.
- Melt the cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese atop each patty and cover to melt.
- Assemble the burger: Toast the buns, layer with the melty patty, caramelized onions, and drizzle with BBQ sauce.
- Serve and enjoy immediately.
Notes
You can prepare caramelized onions a day in advance and store them in the fridge. Customize with toppings like bacon or avocado.
