Description

Sweet Potato & Apple Gratin is a delightful dish that combines the sweetness of apples with the earthiness of sweet potatoes, perfect for fall.


Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or Cheddar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices at the bottom.
  3. Layer half of the apple slices on top of the sweet potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the apples.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining sweet potatoes, apples, and cheese.
  6. In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, melted butter, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  7. Pour the cream mixture evenly over the layered gratin.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and cheese with a dairy-free alternative.
  • Feel free to add nuts or breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
