- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or Cheddar)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices at the bottom.
- Layer half of the apple slices on top of the sweet potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese over the apples.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining sweet potatoes, apples, and cheese.
- In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, melted butter, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the cream mixture evenly over the layered gratin.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegan version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and cheese with a dairy-free alternative.
- Feel free to add nuts or breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
