Description

Delve into the decadence of double chocolate cinnamon rolls, featuring a rich dough enveloped around melting chocolate chips and a hint of cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk until fully incorporated.
  2. Heat the milk and butter: In a saucepan, gently heat the milk and butter until warm.
  3. Combine wet and dry: Pour the warm milk mixture into the dry ingredients, followed by the egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough: Once risen, roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  7. Add the filling: Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chocolate chips over the buttered dough.
  8. Roll it up: Starting from one end, roll the dough tightly into a log shape.
  9. Slice into rolls: Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  10. Final rise: Let them rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake them to perfection: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  12. Serve warm: Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate overnight for a morning treat. Customize fillings with nuts or different chocolate types.
