Description

Delightful corn tamales made with fresh corn and masa, wrapped in traditional husks and steamed to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh corn kernels (or frozen corn)
  • 1 cup masa harina
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Banana leaves or corn husks (for wrapping)

Instructions

  1. Soak banana leaves or corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes.
  2. In a blender, combine the fresh corn kernels, sugar, milk, and melted butter. Blend until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together masa harina, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually mix the blended corn mixture into the dry ingredients until creamy.
  5. Spread a generous spoonful of batter onto the center of a soaked husk, fold it over, and secure it tightly with kitchen twine.
  6. Place tamales upright in a large steamer and steam for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  7. Let them cool slightly before unwrapping and serving.

Notes

Tamales can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge. For a different flavor, add ingredients like jalapeƱos or fresh herbs.
